Who is the visa for?
An immediate family member of a South African citizen of permanent resident.
First kin relatives may apply for both temporary (Relatives Visa) and permanent residence (Relatives Permit).
Second kin relatives may only apply for temporary residence (Relatives Visa).
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be immediate family of a South Africa citizen or permanent resident, ie. mother, father, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather.
- The South African citizen or permanent resident must have an available amount of at least R8500 per person, per month to proof that they are financially able to care for the applicant.
- Proof of kindship must be proven by an unabridged birth certificate. If the application is for the child of a South African citizen or permanent resident, a paternity test may also be required in addition to the unabridged birth certificate.
Additional Information
Relatives Visa
- Does not allow holder to work or run a business in South Africa.
- Valid for a set time period, normally two years (can be renewed).
- Very similar to a long term tourist visa.
Relatives Permit
- Allows holder to study, work and own a business in South Africa.
- Can take up to 2 years to be issued.
Requirements for Relatives Permi
- Passport with at least one blank page.
- A yellow fever vaccination certificate (if applicable).
- Payment of application fee.
- Proof of relatives relationship.
- Statement showing the duration and purpose of visit.
- Police clearance certificate from each country in which you lived for twelve months or longer since the age of eighteen years.
- Medical and radiology reports.
- Proof that South African relatives are indeed citizens or permanent residents of South Africa.
- Proof that South African relative has at least R8500 per month per person.
