Who is this visa for?
Foreigners who wish to work in South Africa and are in possession skills and qualifications which are considered as exceptional by the South African government.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant must have foreign qualifications translated by a sworn translator into one of South Africa’s official languages
- The applicants qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA)
- The applicant must obtain written confirmation from a professional body, council or board who is recognised by SAQA or any other relevant government department, confirming the qualifications or skills of the applicant and proper post qualification experience.
- In the event that any law in South Africa requires of the applicant to be professionally registered in order to practice a profession, his/her application must contain evidence that an application has been made for a certificate of registration with the professional body, council or board recognised by SAQA.

The Critical Skills Work Visa is valid for a maximum period of three years, and extension is possible.
If you have a doctorate in a specific field, and have published articles and/or are considered an expert in a field, this can aid your application.
With a Critical Skills Visa you can apply for Permanent Residence immediately.
